Most claim delays start long before the loss. A few habits make the process much faster when you need it.

Keep your records where you can find them

Insurers ask for proof. Invoices for equipment, stock counts, maintenance logs and photos of your premises all speed up an assessment. Store copies away from the business, in the cloud or at home, so a fire or break-in does not take your evidence with it.

Report early, even if you are unsure

Most policies require prompt notification. Waiting until you have every detail can count against you. Let your broker know as soon as something happens and send the paperwork as it comes.

Know your warranties

Alarm activation, armed response, security gates and burglar bars are often warranties. If they are not in place or not working at the time of a theft, the claim can be reduced or declined. Check them every few months.

Update your sums insured

A business that has grown since the policy started may be underinsured. Average can then reduce the payout in proportion. Review values at every renewal.
